Our Vision

Our vision emphasizes equity and accessibility, which are crucial for fostering positive health outcomes in underserved communities. Ensuring that people have access to essential items like food, hygiene products, and other necessities not only promotes physical health but also supports mental and emotional well-being. By focusing on these fundamental needs, we are dedicated to building stronger, more resilient communities where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.

Our History

Joy in Every Meal was established by Patrice Little in 2024, after having initiated food drives using personal funds and donations since 2009. The first food drive in July of 2009 was held in memory of Patrice’s mother, Joy, who lived much of her adult life unhoused on the streets of San Diego, CA and passed away that July. Patrice and her daughter, who was six years old at the time, prepared and distributed over 200 meals to the most vulnerable populations in the Skid Row area of Los Angeles, CA. Since then, Patrice has organized other food drives in Los Angeles County, CA where she currently resides and Merced County, CA where she grew up. Toiletry and hygiene items donated by local friends and businesses expanded access to essential items, in addition to food.

As a child, Patrice grew up in poverty and vividly recalls experiencing hunger throughout her childhood. Government subsidy and school meal programs were essential for feeding her and her four siblings. She recalls waiting in long lines early in the morning to collect boxes of government-issued cheese, butter, powdered milk, oatmeal, chunky peanut butter, canned meat, and raisins. Patrice also has memories of weekend grocery runs after getting food stamps on the first and fifteen of each month. She and her siblings would help their aunt, who raised them much of their childhood, view the weekend papers to research the sales, clip coupons, and plan grocery shopping runs.

Recognizing the need for people and families to have adequate access to food and essential items, Patrice founded Joy in Every Meal in 2024. Obtaining 501(c)3 non-profit status allows for an increased ability to provide services to the community and expand range of services.
